Monsanto joint plant biotechnology pipeline

On 7th July Monsanto and BASF announced an expansion of their collaboration to develop higher‐yielding and stress‐tolerant crops to include wheat. The agreement extends the duration of exclusive development in the core crops of soy, corn, cotton and canola and adds an additional crop, wheat. It will result in a potential additional investment of more than $1 billion by the companies over the life of the collaboration.
The collaboration was established in 2007 and initially included corn, soy, cotton and canola. Work on those crops continues along with the addition of wheat. Under the terms of the collaboration, each company maintains independent trait discovery programs and nominates from those programs specific candidate genes to advance for accelerated joint development. Products are jointly funded through each phase of development, and those that emerge from the joint development will be commercialized by Monsanto.
